Artwork of the Week – 17th March 2014

Beryl Cook – Fairy Dell

Union Art is delighted to give our customers the opportunity to purchase an extremely rare piece of artwork from Beryl Cook. A selection of classic Signed Limited Edition Prints by Beryl Cook have just been added to Union Art and these new additions to the website are very low in stock! The collection are exact reproductions of the original paintings printed to the highest possible standard on heavyweight paper. Beryl’s signature appears in the bottom right hand corner on all signed prints.

Edition sizes have varied slightly over the years. Initially the edition was 750; this was raised in 1982 to 850 and then reduced in 1994 to 650, a limit which remains in place today.

The astonishing national and international response to Beryl’s death at the age of 81 on May 28th 2008, both in the media and from the general public, was a remarkable testament to her unofficial position as Britain’s favourite painter. Her Signed Limited Edition Prints are extremely sought after and are a great investment opportunity.

Fairy Dell is one of these rare sought after signed prints from the classic collection added to Union Art. Fairy Dell was published in 1981 and is an edition of 750. Beryl commented about the piece “I’m fond of fairies and this is the first picture I ever painted of them. I used plants in the garden for background, inserting the marrows for the audience to sit on while they watch Poppy dancing. It was only when I’d finished that I realised Fairy Dandelion had come out without her knickers!”
